PM's gifts to go under hammer to save polluted Ganga

The Centre will auction the gifts received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from across the country, later this month.

The proceeds will be utilised for the 'Namami Gange' project which has the twin objectives of making the river Ganga pollution-free and conservation and rejuvenation.

“The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) will organise an auction of prestigious memorable gifts presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi from across India. The amount raised in lieu of auction will be used for the Project Namami Gange.” the government said in a statement.

The auction will be held on January 27 and 28 at the NGMA from 12 noon onwards.

An e-auction will take place subsequently from January 29 to 31 of the leftover gifts.

“Around 1,900 such exclusive gifts are currently on public display at NGMA. The gift items include paintings, sculptures, shawls, pagris, jackets, traditional musical instruments etc,” the government added.
