Pradhan hails SC decision on NEET issue, says exam's final results to be out within 2 days

The top court dismissed the pleas seeking cancellation and re-test of the controversy-ridden 2024 NEET-UG, holding that there was no evidence on record to conclude that the exam was 'vitiated' on account of 'systemic breach' of its sanctity.

New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday hailed the Supreme Court's decision on the NEET-UG issue, saying truth has prevailed, and announced that the final results of the medical entrance exam will be declared within two days.

Welcoming the Supreme Court's decision not to cancel the NEET-UG exams, Pradhan said “satya vijay huwa hai (truth has finally won)”.

“While putting forward our side in front of the apex court, we said that the Modi government is committed to a transparent, tamper-proof and zero-error exam system. To this end, we are revamping the NTA, for which we had announced an expert committee a few days ago,” he added.

He also added that the court also took note of the effect of cancelling NEET on weaker sections of the society. “Weaker sections such as SC, ST, OBC, economically-weaker sections will bear the brunt, a point that we have raised before,” he added.

Pradhan also said that those involved in irregularities will not be spared. “If anybody is found involved in exam irregularities, they will not be spared. Zero tolerance for any kind of breach; the sanctity of exams supreme for us,” he said.

Alleging that the Opposition’s role has been “exposed”, Pradhan said, “Especially the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, who said that the country’s education system is ‘rubbish’, shows his mental status. The country’s competitive exams have been praised globally – our doctors and engineers are well-regarded across the globe. By criticising all this, Rahul Gandhi is criticising the country. He has been misleading students, and has been trying to spread anarchy."

On Monday, the first day of the Budget Session, Gandhi led the Opposition’s charge against the education minister and said that Pradhan has blamed everybody except himself.
