Attempt to derail goods train in Ajmer, cement blocks kept on freight corridor tracks

The incident occurred between Saradhna and Bangad stations of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor on the Phulera-Ahmedabad stretch.

Jaipur: Another train derailment attempt was foiled in Ajmer on Sunday night after two officials alerted the authorities on time. This was the third derailment attempt in 17 days in the state.

Two cement blocks weighing around 70 kg were placed one km apart on railway tracks between Saradhana and Bangadh villages in Ajmer district late on Sunday night.

Two officials—Ravi Bundela and Vishwajeet Das—from the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) informed the police on finding the cement blocks around 10:36 pm. They lodged an FIR at Mangliyawas police station.

On reaching the site, the police found both the blocks broken, indicating that the two Goods trains had passed without any hiccups and the blocks lay broken and damaged. Railway officials said the blocks probably broke as the train engine collided with them. Thereafter DFCCIL and Railway Police Force (RPF) officials examined and patrolled the tracks between the two places and found them safe.

Two other incidents of train derailment from the state were reported recently. On August 28, scrap parts of a motorbike were found strewn on the tracks of a goods train passing through Chabbra in Baran district.

On Aug 23, Ahmedabad-Jodhpur Vande Bharat Express travelling to Jodhpur hit a cement block kept on the railway track in Pali district. There were at least 375 passengers on the train then.

Sunday’s attempt to derail the train in Rajasthan came soon after the news of Kalindi Express Train travelling from Prayagraj to Bhiwani in Haryana hitting an LPG cylinder, came to light.
