Student demands Rs 1.1 crore compensation from 'Amaran' makers after Sai Pallavi fans bombard him with calls

A college student from Chennai has allegedly asked for Rs 1.1 crore as compensation after his phone number was used in the movie Amaran.

As per a report by The Hindu, V V Vaageesan, an engineering student sent a legal notice to sue the makers of the film after he started receiving numerous calls on his phone.

In one of the scenes in the movie, the number belonging to the actress Sai Pallavi was of Vaageesan's in reality.

The report stated that due to receiving so many calls on his number, he had to deal with "untold hardships and mental agony".

He claimed that after the movie released on October31, his phone continuously began ringing, with fans calling him in hopes of speaking to Sai Pallavi.

He did not know the reason of getting so many calls, and kept his phone on silent. However, the next day he saw the number of calls was double and then through a voice message sent to him, he realised that his number was used in the movie.

Fans who called him assumed the number belonged to the actress after which Vaageesan clarified to many.

He mentioned to the publication that he has not been able to sleep or study properly after this and so he decided to take legal action against the filmmakers.

"Since the release of the movie, I have not been able to sleep, study, or carry out basic activities without interruptions. The moment I switch on my phone, strangers call me. I am unable to even book a cab and call/receive the driver due to continuous incoming calls," The Hindu quoted him saying.

Vaageesan also expressed that after the incident he does not wish to change his phone number as it is linked to his official accounts.

"I do not want to change my phone number because of this issue because it is linked to my Aadhaar, bank cards and other academic platforms," he said as quoted by the publication.

Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, the movie stars Sivakarthikeyan, Sai Pallavi and was released on october 31. the movie is inspired by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh's book 'India's Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes'.

The movie tells the story of Major Mukund Varadarajan of 44th Rashtriya Rifle Regiment, Indian Army. He was martyred on April 25, 2014, in Shopian, Kashmir.
