Tributes paid to Ambedkar in Central Hall of Parliament

Munda, Union ministers S M Krishna, Mukul Wasnik and Ashwani Kumar, and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj offered floral tributes at the portrait of Ambedkar in Central Hall of Parliament.

A booklet containing the profile of Ambedkar was presented to the dignitaries who attended the function. Ambedkar's portrait was unveiled in the Central Hall of Parliament House by the then Prime Minister V P Singh, on April 12, 1990 in recognition of his services to the nation.

Thousands of people visited the Parliament premises, that were thrown open to public today, to enable them offer tributes at Ambedkar's statue. Ambedkar was the first Law Minister of the country and chairman of the committee constituted by the Constituent Assembly to draft a Constitution for independent India. He was conferred the Bharat Ratna in 1990.
