Assam NRC list LIVE | WB BJP President wants NRC to be implemented in Bengal too
The much-awaited updated Final National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam was released on Saturday, excluding names of 19.07 lakh applicants. On Friday Assam CM Sonowal urged people to maintain peace in the state and assured that his government will take care of the cause of those excluded and take care that no one faced "unnecessary harassment." NRC: CPM concern about genuine citizens being left out
The CPM on Saturday said the exclusion of over 19 lakh people from the NRC in Assam had raised fears of legitimate citizens being left out of the document.
Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), a member of the ruling alliance in Assam, on Saturday expressed dissatisfaction over the final NRC in the state and said there is scope for its review in the Supreme Court, which supervised the updation process.
The ruling BJP on Saturday said they do not trust the updated National Register of Citizens, specifically prepared for Assam, and appealed to the central and the state governments to prepare a nationwide NRC.
NRC should be implemented in Bengal too: Dilip Ghosh
West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh Saturday demanded implementation of NRC in the state to drive out Bangladeshi Muslims for the sake of internal security of the country.
