England completed a comprehensive win over South Africa then and kicked off the World Cup in the perfect possible manner. After the first innings, 311 did not seem enough but South Africa never really got going. de Kock looked like the only one who wanted to take the fight to England and he was supported for a while by Rassie van der Dussen.
The duo's fifty partnership will be the only positive for South Africa's batting as both of them got fifties. van der Dussen especially looked in good touch and showed no signs of nerves in his first WC game. For England, Jofra Archer breathed fire in his WC debut, making Amla retire hurt when his nasty bouncer hit the latter flush on the helmet. He did return later to bat but could not do much, getting only 13.
Woakes bowled well but did not have a wicket to show for it while the other English bowlers found their names on the wickets column as they exploited the slow nature of the pitch. South Africa have a lot to ponder over.
