Coronavirus news highlights: India's Covid-19 death toll crosses 90,000-mark
India's Covid-19 tally crosses the 56-lakh mark with a spike of 83,347 new cases and 1,085 deaths in the last 24 hours. The Union Health Ministry placed the total number of cases at 56,87,940 and the death toll at 90,892. The Ministry said that 46,38,688 people have so far recovered from the infection. The country has also conducted over 6.6 crore tests and approximately 9.5 lakh samples were tested yesterday.

What Covid-19 reinfection means for vaccines
The question of whether we can be reinfected with Covid-19 has been resolved. In August, genome sequencing confirmed that a 33-year-old man in Hong Kong had indeed been infected by the same virus a second time. So too was the case for a 25-year-old man in the United States, though the originating case study has yet to be peer reviewed.
Himachal Pradesh reports five more Covid-19 deaths, 280 new cases. Infection tally rises to 13,050, death toll reaches 136. There are 3,952 active cases in the state.

Punjab reports 64 more Covid-19 fatalities and 2,123 new cases, taking the state's infection tally to 1,03,464 and the death toll to 2,990. Number of active cases stands at 21,230. (PTI)
