Piyush Goyal orders probe into Eastern Railway office building fire in Kolkata

The nine deceased include four fire brigade personnel

With three more bodies being recovered in the early hours of Tuesday, the death toll in the fire incident at a multistorey story building of the Indian Railways in Kolkata went up to nine.

The deceased include four fire brigade personnel, two from the Railways and one official of the Kolkata Police.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has ordered a high-level probe into the incident.

"Sincere condolences to the families of the nine brave deceased including the four firefighters, two Railways personnel & a police ASI who have been fighting the fire at the Eastern Railways Strand road office in Kolkata," tweeted Goyal.

Refuting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s allegation that there was a lack of proper cooperation from the Railway authority Goyal said that "all possible assistance" was provided by Railways to the state government.

"All possible assistance has been provided by the Railways to the State Govt during this unfortunate fire accident. A high-level inquiry consisting of four Principal heads of Railway departments has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the fire," (sic) tweeted Goyal.
