<p>After schools, Jammu and Kashmir government has directed officers in the union territory to hoist the national flag on all government buildings and establishments under their jurisdiction.</p>.<p>The decision was taken by the Lieutenant Governor in a meeting with the divisional commissioners, district magistrates and superintendents of police of the UT. Accordingly, the officers have been directed to hoist the national flag on all the government buildings within the next two weeks.</p>.<p>A circular issued in this regard by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir reads: “The Indian national flag represents hope and aspiration of the people of India. It is a symbol of our national pride. There is universal affection and respect for, and loyalty to the national flag.”</p>.<p>“As such it is enjoined upon all the Deputy Commissioners / Head of Departments / Directors of Kashmir Division to ensure hoisting of national flag on all government buildings/offices on all days and occasions, ceremonial or otherwise with the dignity and honour of national flag,” it adds.</p>.<p>Earlier last month, J&K government had asked all the schools in the valley to install a signboard of standard design with the national flag in the background for which April 30 has been given as deadline.</p>.<p>Till the abrogation of J&K’s special status under Article 370 in August 2019, the erstwhile state had its own flag, besides the national flag. The red flag with a plough and three stripes is no longer in use. J&K had adopted a separate constitution in 1956, under which it was permitted to hoist its own flag till August 2019.</p>.<p>Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, while reviewing the activities under the "Azaadi ka Amrut Mahotsav", has asked the district officers to identify people from their areas who played an important role in the freedom struggle and felicitate them in the celebrations.</p>.<p>“Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav” is a series of events organised to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence.</p>
