<p>During the customary interaction on the first day of the Monsoon session of parliament, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the situation in Manipur, said Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, party’s leader in the Lok Sabha.</p>.<p>The brief exchange between the two leaders took place just before the house convened when the prime minister walked around the well of the house to greet leaders of the various political parties.</p>.<p><strong>Also Read | <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/national/national-politics/too-little-too-late-congress-after-pm-modi-breaks-silence-on-manipur-violence-1238900.html">Too little, too late: Congress after PM Modi breaks silence on Manipur violence</a></strong></p>.<p>The opposition led by the Congress has been demanding a discussion on the protracted violence in Manipur followed by a statement from the Prime Minister.</p>.<p>Responding to the demand, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said in the Lok Sabha that Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had already assured the opposition leaders at the all-party meeting on Wednesday that the government was willing to discuss the Manipur violence and Home Minister Amit Shah would reply to the issues raised by MPs. </p>.<p>The opposition however has been insisting on a statement by the Prime Minister.</p>.<p>In the Rajya Sabha, TMC MP Derek O’Brien demanded that the Prime Minister should break his silence on the issue in the house.</p>
