A woman died outside the New Delhi railway station on Sunday morning after accidentally touching an electric wire following heavy rains.

According to police, Sakshi Ahuja (34) was walking with her sister towards the station when she accidentally fell on the pole and came in contact with exposed wires as a result of which she was electrocuted. The family was heading to the railway station to board a train to Chandigarh.

An inquiry revealed that a few wires of an electric pole were lying exposed at the spot. The incident took place near exit gate number 1 of the station.

Sakshi is survived by her husband, 10-year-old son and six-year-old daughter.

“Police received information about the electrocution and rushed to the spot. The staff and Ahuja’s sister Madhvi Chopra took her to Lady Hardinge Medical College where doctors declared her dead. The body was shifted to a mortuary, DCP (Railways) Apoorva Gupta said.

After this, the victim's sister, Madhvi Chopra, filed a complaint alleging negligence on the part of the authorities concerned, the DCP said.

“Crime team and experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory, Rohini inspected the spot. The team has photographed the place of incident from all angles. An investigation is under progress,” DCP Gupta added.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons under sections 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
