After launching the new line of Mi 11 Ultra, Pro, Lite series, Xiaomi showcased the company's next-generation flagship concept mobile Mi Mix Fold.
.
As the name suggests, the new Mi Mix Fold features a flexible display. Its design has a practical advantage over other rival brands, as it bends inwards, which protects the wide-screen, while the smaller cover screen upfront is just big enough as a normal phone to do tasks such as view messages, time, and even reply or answer calls instantly without having to unfurl the device to view on the bigger display.
.
On the front, the Mi Mix sports a 6.5-inch AMOLED TrueColor cover display with 2520 x 840p resolution. It supports 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch sampling rate, 27:9 screen ratio, HDR10+ compliant, peak brightness up to 900 nits.
.
Inside, the Xiaomi's phone features an 8.01-inch flexible WQHD+ OLED screen with 4:3 aspect ratio, 1 billion colours, DCI-P3, 60Hz refresh rate, 120Hz touch sampling rate, 900 nits peak brightness, 600nits overall brightness, 4,300,000:1 contrast ratio and supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision.
.
Xiaomi noted that it has incorporated U-shaped hinge design for the Mi Mix Fold, which the company says, it has greatly improved weight and reliability. Also, the weight is reduced by up to 27% compared to other foldable mobiles.
.
The device underwent 200,000 bends in reliability testing and up to 1 million bends in extreme reliability testing, the company added.
.
Another interesting aspect of the Mi Mix Fold is the new-age liquid lens camera sensor.
.
"The liquid lens uses the principle of human eye bionics, forming a lens-like structure with a transparent fluid wrapped in film, very different from traditional optical lenses. The radius of curvature of the spherical surface can be accurately changed thanks to a high-precision motor based on Xiaomi’s self-developed technology, which allows for 3X optical zoom, up to 30X telephoto, and a minimum focus distance of 3cm. One lens virtually covers functions of two lenses," Xiaomi said.
.
The liquid lens promises high light transmittance, ultra-low dispersion, and excellent resistance to extreme environments.
.
With this, users can be assured of getting high-quality pictures with micro-details with macro shots, and also capture more details of rivers and mountains from a distance.
.
Also, the company says it can liquid lens can maintain the fluid form in an environment from a low of -40°C to a high of 60°C, ensuring stable, long-lasting, and high-quality optics.
.
Xiaomi's Mi Mix Fold houses a triple-camera module-- main 108MP (with 1/1.52-inch Samsung HM2 primary sensor, 7P, 2.1μm (9-in-1)large pixels) with LED flash + 8MP liquid lens (123-degree ultra-wide-angle field of view, 80mm equivalent focal length, 3cm minimum focusing distance) + 13MP (with f/2.4, 1.12μm) backed proprietary Surge C1 image processing chip. On the front, it features 20MP sensor.
.
Under-the-hood, it comes packed with Snapdragon 888 octa-core chipset, Qualcomm's latest and most powerful processor to date. It is backed by a Buttery cooling system – Vapour Cool chamber, Bionic-structure graphene, thermal gel in addition to multilayer graphite sheet, to dissipate excessive heating caused by power-intensive tasks such as 4K video recording, playing graphics-rich games.
.
It also features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, which also doubles up as the power button. It comes with Quad speakers 3D panoramic sound system, Dual 1216 speakers and Harman Kardon sound system.
.
The Mi Mix Fold also comes with MIUI 12 based on Android 10, 3200MHz 12GB/16GB LPDDR5 RAM, 256GB/512GB storage (UFS 3.1), and a 5,020mAh battery with 67W wired turbocharging capability, wherein the device can power up from zero to 100 per cent in around 37 minutes.
.
Xiaomi is offering the Mi Mix Fold in three variants-- 12GB RAM + 256GB storage, 12GB RAM +512GB storage and 16GB RAM + 512GB storage-- for RMB 9,999 (approx. Rs 1,12,002), RMB 10,999 (roughly Rs 1,23,204) and RMB 12,999 (around Rs 1,45,606). It comes two colours-- black and ceramic special edition.
.
Also, Xiaomi unveiled the company's new brand logo. It is designed by a world-renowned designer, professor of Musashino Art University and the President of the Nippon Design Center (NDC), Kenya HARA.
.
"Adopting a softer, rounder contour on the corners of the previously squared logo, along with redesigned “MI” typography, the new logo is now more aesthetically pleasing. Corporate colour remains orange to continue to convey the liveliness and youthfulness of Xiaomi. Black and silver will also be used as supplemental colors to accommodate high-end product line applications," the company said.
.
Furthermore, Xiaomi also announced to foray into the emerging Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturing and sales business. It has announced to invest US$15 billion for the next 10 years.
.
Read more | Xiaomi plans $15 billion foray into electric cars
.
Get the latest news on new launches, gadget reviews, apps, cybersecurity, and more on personal technology only on DH Tech.
