Nettakallappa All-India Swimming Championship: Hashika inspires a gold rush

Bengaluru: Hashika Ramachandra had three golds in the kitty while Naisha Shetty had two by the time the butterfly specialists lined-up for the final race of the opening day at the Nettakallappa All-India Swimming Championship here on Saturday. 

With the crowd behind the home girl, Nettakallappa Aquatic Centre’s (NAC) Naisha pipped Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre’s (BAC) Hashika in the women’s open SKINS 50m butterfly event by the slightest of margins to equalise on the yellow metal count with her rival. 

While Naisha clocked 29.54 seconds to top the podium, Hashika finished the race in 29.58s to end her bountiful day with a silver. Rishika U Mangle of BAC claimed the bronze with a time of 29.90secs. 

Earlier, Hashika topped the podium in the girls’ Group I 400m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 100m butterfly events while Naisha, competing in the women’s senior section, finished first in the 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly races. 

In the men’s open SKINS butterfly showdown, Lakshyan Academy of Sports’ Chinthan S Shetty (26.13s) took gold ahead of SRM University’s Nithik Nathella (26.78s) and Jain University’s Xavier D’Souza (28.30s) who clinched a silver and bronze respectively.
