There are 36 lakh traffic violation cases pending with Mysuru City Traffic Police since 2013 and thus weekends -- Saturdays and Sunday -- will be dedicated to collect fines from violators.
.
City Police Commissioner Chandragupta revealed about the pending cases, during an interaction with journalists at Mysuru District Journalists' Association here, on Friday. He said, "The traffic police register nearly, 5,000 traffic violation cases per day. While 500 cases are filed by the police, during checking, 4,500 violations are recorded through CCTV cameras and other equipment."
.
The commissioner said that the people ignore Field Traffic Violation Report (FTVR) notices. "In many cases, residential address of the vehicle owners mismatch. There was audit objection and thus, the police are clearing old cases, by collecting fine. There are many vehicles with more that a hundred violation cases. It is obvious for the owners to get angry, when the police ask them to pay a huge amount as fine. The people should not violate the norms, as the violations are recorded automatically on CCTV cameras, AMG cameras and others," he said.
.
The commissioner urged the owners of vehicles to visit Karnataka one website to check for violation cases against their vehicle.
.
He said that every Saturday and Sunday, all Traffic Police stations in the city will accept fines from owners of vehicles.
.
The commissioner said that the Police department has plans to minimise spot fines and it will be nil in the coming years. We have tied up with Paytm, an E-commerce company, and Postal department for the purpose. The move will help in controlling irregularities, he said.
.
The commissioner said that the city police have identified 13 accident zones in Mysuru city and have taken measures to provide alternative roads, with the help of Public Works Department (PWD) and local bodies like Mysuru City Corporation (MCC). A majority of road accidents are reported on Outer Ring Road due to over speed, he said.
.
The commissioner said, "The people must know about the rules and procedures. In many cases, people allege that police constables inspect vehicles and impose fine against them. But, as per norms, officers above the rank of assistant sub-inspector are allowed to inspect and imposing fine."
