<p>The Mangala swimming pool of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will be open to the public from Monday, but people will have to adhere to Covid-19 guidelines.</p>.<p>G Santhosh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner (administration) of MCC, said that those who want to use the swimming pool will have to obtain a medical certificate to get entry.</p>.<p>"Pool users should produce their identity cards and obtain membership. Entry tickets will not be sold at the swimming pool counter till further orders. The pool users should compulsorily wear a mask when they are not swimming. Similarly, they should also maintain social distance inside the pool. The membership of those who violate the rules will be cancelled," he said.</p>.<p>The pool will remain closed on all Sundays till further orders, he added.</p>.<p>In the past, the swimming enthusiasts and students were disappointed as the swimming pool had remained closed.</p>.<p>Normally, the Mangala swimming pool is in more demand during peak summer to beat the heat and also as a summer camp for children.</p>.<p>The pool had remained closed since March 13 due to Covid-19 pandemic. The pool was fetching an annual income of Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh.</p>.<p>However, the income was affected due to pandemic since last March. There are nearly 13 personnel employed at the pool.</p>.<p>The swimming clubs had been demanding the district administration to open the pool all these days. The pool was fetching Rs 13 lakh to Rs 15 lakh during summer alone. About Rs 1.5 lakh is used for the maintenance of the pool every month.</p>.<p>There are five swimming pools in Mangaluru—Mangala pool managed by Mangaluru City Corporation, swimming pools at NITK and Fisheries college managed by the respective colleges, swimming pool at St Aloysius College managed by a private club and a pool at Hotel Moti Mahal managed by the hotel.</p>
