Bypoll Election Results 2024 Highlights: NDA wins big in UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Congress, TMC clean sweeps in Karnataka, West Bengal
The counting of votes for the bypolls to 46 Assembly seats in 13 states and in the Lok Sabha segments of Maharashtra's Nanded and Kerala's Wayanad is in its last lap. Priyanka Gandhi is on her way to securing a landslide victory from Kerala's Wayanad with the Congress veteran currently leading by a margin of more than 4 lakh votes. Congress secured a sweeping victory in Karnataka, with the grand old party winning in all 3 assembly segments - Sandur, Shiggaon and Channapatna. Both JD(S) leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy and BJP's Bharath Bommai failed to win from their respective constituencies in Channapatna and Shiggaon. TMC wins all 6 seats in West Bengal. The Assembly bypolls were held in nine seats in Uttar Pradesh, seven in Rajasthan, six in West Bengal, five in Assam, four each in Punjab and Bihar, two each in Madhya Pradesh and Kerala and one each in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Meghalaya. Bypolls Live Highlights | Assembly bypolls in four states sees 50-70% turnout; ID checks, murder mar UP voting
A voter turnout ranging from 50 to 70 per cent was recorded in the bypolls to 15 assembly seats spread across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala and Uttarakhand on Wednesday amid stray incidents of violence and complaints of irregularities against police officials and misuse of government machinery. While the polling percentage in Kerala was 70.51, it was 63 in Punjab, 57.64 in Uttarakhand and 49.3 in Uttar Pradesh. The final figures are likely to change. Acting on complaints by SP president Akhilesh Yadav against police officers checking voter cards and Aadhaar IDs, the Election Commission ordered suspension of five police personnel in Uttar Pradesh violating its guidelines on checking of voters and stopping them from casting votes.
