James Webb Space Telescope
Webb telescope reveals rapid growth of primordial black hole
Black holes are extremely dense objects with gravity so strong that not even light can escape. With their immense gravitational pull, they grow in mass by sucking in material such as gas, dust and stars unfortunate enough to stray nearby.

Cosmic penguin born of galactic merger: NASA releases spectacular Webb images
The two galaxies in the images are situated 326 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Hydra. A light year is the distance light travels in a year, 5.9 trillion miles (9.5 trillion km).

Jupiter-like planet with 'glass rain' smells like rotten eggs, James Webb Telescope discovers
In fact, its orbit is 13 times nearer to its host star than our innermost planet Mercury is to the sun, leaving the temperature on the side of the planet facing the star at about 1,700 degrees Fahrenheit (930 degrees Celsius).

Study fuses UVIT, Webb images to unravel star formation impact
In a first, the researchers fused high-resolution images from the UltraViolet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) aboard the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro)’s AstroSat and the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), to investigate the impact of star formation on the properties of PAH molecules.

Searching for life in the dead of space
Recently, scientists from Cambridge found for the first time CO2 and methane in the atmosphere of a habitable zone exoplanet, in addition to possible evidence of another molecule that could be indicative of life. In a conversation with DH, Professor Nikku Madhusudhan, lead author of the study, explains the science behind exoplanet remote-sensing and the search for alien life.

Possible signs of life on faraway planet detected in study led by Indian-origin scientist
The study, led by Indian-origin astronomer Nikku Madhusudhan, found for the first time the presence of a particular molecule on an exoplanet. That molecule, on Earth at least, is only produced by living organisms.

The story of our Universe may be starting to unravel
Over the past 60 years, cosmology has become ever more precise in its ability to account for the best available data about the universe. But along the way astrophysicists have had to postulate the existence of components of the universe for which we have no direct evidence.
