Hot glue for '3D teardrop makeup' popular among schoolgirls; draws flak in Japan, China

A new makeup trend known as '3D teardrop makeup', which involves creating droplet shapes using hot melt glue, has yet again gained popularity among Japanese school girls.

According to a report by the South China Morning Post, the style in which the droplets are glued to the face mimicking tears tolling down the cheeks, has been criticised in Japan and China, with many calling it 'ridiculous' due to its similiarity to sperm or snot.

The tears are made using hot glue by making droplet shapes on a smooth surface until they dry and solidify, after which they are removed from the surface. The fake tears are then stuck to the face using eyelash glue.

According to SCMP, Rika Shiiki from a Japanese firm which specialises in promoting products for students noted that such trends among Japanese school girls keep changing rapidly as they last for only about 2 weeks to at most a month.

Allegedly girls enjoy experimenting with different styles, clicking pictures of themselves in those styles and posting them on social media platforms.

According to the publication's report, this has led to a rise in such trends which involve using affordable things to create new styles and decorations to attract attention online.

Apparently, these girls have found and now believe that hot melt glue when applied to the face creates a noticeable effect which makes their pictures come out really pretty.

However, people who manufacture hot melt glue have issued warnings against using it for cosmetic purposes as it is a chemical substance which might cause skin irritation, allergies or even permanent damage to the facial skin which is considered to be super sensitive and soft.

Chinese and Japanese people have tagged the trend as 'ridiculous' and 'bizarre' triggering a backlash.

According to SCMP, a Japanese individual said, "Wait, doesn’t this hot glue tear make-up look suspiciously like sperm?"

Another said, "Seriously? Are secondary school girls really into this kind of inappropriate trend now?"

According to the publication's report, a Chinese individual too said, "This looks more like snot than tears. It’s disgusting, not cute at all."
