Supporting continuation of dialogue between India and Pakistan for addressing bilateral issues, the US has asserted that the process should not get derailed due to growing tension between the two countries over recent killing of two Indian soldiers.

"We have made representations to both governments urging them to work together to determine the best course of action. We strongly support their continued high-level dialogue they are engaged in," State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said, expressing concern over recent violence along the LoC.

Nuland observed that dialogue between the two countries was the "best way" to address contentious bilateral issues.

"That (dialogue) is the best way to work through these issues, end violence and move back to where we had been, as you said, where we had a warming certainly on the economic side, which we hoped would lead to a warming on other sides as well," Nuland said.

"I think we're all for peace. And what's important is that the governments (India and Pakistan) are talking," she said.
