Parliament Monsoon Session highlights: Lok Sabha adjourned sine die; Monsoon Session ends on a sour note in Rajya Sabha
The Covid-19-marred Monsoon Session of the Parliament ended with the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha getting adjourned sine die. Speaker Om Birla said that the productivity of the Lower House during the Monsoon Session was 167% with 25 Bills passed and 370 issues raised during the Zero Hour. The Rajya Sabha saw major political turbulence with the Monsoon Session ending on a sour note, marked by protests and suspensions over the contentious Farm Bills. The session was scheduled to go on till October 1 but was cut short in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi calls Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla 'hero' of Zero Hour
Recalling his earlier days as a parliamentarian, Joshi said a new MP would consider herself fortunate to get an opportunity to raise a matter during the Zero Hour.
Getting even one chance to speak during the Zero Hour was a "big thing", he said.
"...you have become hero of the Zero Hour. You give opportunity to everyone. Everyone is happy," Joshi said.
Lok Sabha passes bill to provide greater autonomy to 12 major ports
The Bill aims to provide for regulation, operation and planning of major ports in India and to vest the administration, control and management of such ports upon the boards of major port authorities and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto, be taken into consideration. "This would enable our ports to become world-class and enable board to take decision on their own," Shipping Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said while relying to debate on the bill.
