Voting in the bypolls for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat and the Chelakkara assembly constituency in Kerala commenced at 7am on Wednesday People started arriving early in the morning at the 1,354 polling booths in the hill constituency of Wayanad where there are over 14 lakh registered voters, according to the Election Commission figures.
Polling is under way for by-election to Gambegre assembly constituency in Meghalaya on Wednesday, amidst tight security arrangements, an official said.
Voting began at 7 AM, he said.
Long queues of electors were seen outside several polling stations in the constituency.
Voters queued up on Wednesday morning at polling booths for the byelection to Vav assembly seat in Gujarat's Banaskantha district, where the ruling BJP candidate and Congress nominee are the main contestants.
Voting began at 7 am, with BJP candidate Swarupji Thakor being among the early voters.
The polling will continue till 6 pm.
During the first hour of voting, Wayanad Lok Sabha and the Chelakkara assembly seats in Kerala witnessed a turnout of 6.96 and 7.2 per cent, respectively on Wednesday. People started arriving early in the morning at the 1,354 polling booths in the hill constituency of Wayanad where there are over 14 lakh registered voters, according to the Election Commission figures. Some arrived early, while others wanted to get it over with quickly before more people started reaching the polling stations, they told reporters. It is a holiday in Wayanad LS and Chelakkara assembly constituencies on account of the bypolls.
"Since last night, TMC goons are roaming around Sitai constituency to intimidate common voters... They are threatening our supporters not to vote. Today I see many polling booths are empty because voters are scared... TMC and local administration are one...Police are helping the Trinamool party."
Brisk polling was seen for the Wayanad Lok Sabha and the Chelakkara assembly seats in Kerala as they witnessed a turnout of 20.54 and 19.08 per cent, respectively, after the first three hours of voting on Wednesday. An Independent candidate for the Deoli-Uniara Assembly bypoll allegedly slapped a Sub-Divisional Officer engaged in election duty on Wednesday as area magistrate, officials said.
Voting for the bypolls to seven Assembly seats in Rajasthan is underway with close to 25 per cent of votes cast till 11 am. The counting of votes will be held on November 23.

A polling percentage of over 52 was recorded till 3 pm in the bypolls to the seven assembly seats in Rajasthan on Wednesday, election officials said.
There was no report of any untoward incident except from Deoli-Uniara in Tonk where an independent candidate slapped an area magistrate, a Rajasthan Administrative Service officer, for making efforts for voting as the locals had boycotted polling in support of their demand. (PTI)
More than seven lakh voters were eligible to cast their votes in about 770 polling stations in Shiggaon, Sandur and Channapatna, where a total of 45 candidates were in the fray.
While Channapatna recorded a record 84.26 per cent voter turnout, it was 75.07 per cent in Shiggaon, and 71.47 per cent in Sandur, the officials said.
A turnout ranging from 55 to 90 per cent was recorded in the bypolls to 31 assembly seats in 10 states while in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, the polling percentage was around 65 on Wednesday with voting in West Bengal marred by sporadic incidents of violence in which a TMC worker was killed.
