New Delhi: In his first rally in poll-bound Jharkhand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday accused the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led coalition of being an ‘alliance of infiltrators’ for allegedly supporting Bangladeshi infiltrators.

In Delhi, the party doubled down on its attack on the Hemant Soren government, accusing it of naturalising illegal immigrants from Bangladesh to Jharkhand and then making them voters.

Speaking at Garhwa, the prime minister accused the JMM alliance of appeasement politics. “Appeasement politics has reached a high in Jharkhand where the JMM-led coalition is busy supporting Bangladeshi infiltrators. If this continues, the tribal population in the state will shrink. This is a threat to tribal society and the country. This coalition has become a ‘Gushpaithiya Bandhan’ and a ‘Mafia ka Gulam’,” PM Modi said.

He further alleged that Sarastwati Vandana is prevented in schools, and a curfew is imposed during festivals. “You can understand the level of threat. Durga Puja and all major festivals are being impacted,” he alleged.

The party continued the line of attack; in Delhi, party spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia alleged that tribal girls are married off to illegal immigrants. Bhatia added that, in 2001, the population of Scheduled Castes in the state was 46 per cent, which fell to 42 per cent in 2011. “At the same time, the population of Muslims rose from 33 per cent to 36 per cent in the same time,” he said.

Bhatia said that as per a directive from the Soren government, several illegal immigrants were given place in the state. “First, the government order states that the immigrants be given a place to stay in the madrassas in Santhal Pargana region, then the government prepares official documents to work for appeasement politics. Third, their names are added in voters’ list – all of these are part of official documents,” Bhatia alleged.

He further said that some of these new entrants to the state are then married to the local people so that they can take over land.

Assembly Elections 2024 | The Maharashtra Assembly polls will take place against the backdrop of a fractured political landscape in the western state where the Shiv Sena and NCP will be going up against the Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar factions, even as the BJP and Congress try to make their mark. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the JMM faces a new challenge after Hemant Soren's recent arrest and Champai, a longstanding party member, joining the BJP. The Haryana election resulted in a shock loss for Congress, which was looking to galvanize on the Lok Sabha poll performance, while J&K also saw the grand old party eventually stepping away from the cabinet, with Omar Abdullah's JKNC forming government. It remains to be seen if the upcoming polls help BJP cement its position further or provide a fillip to I.N.D.I.A.
