New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that if it comes to power, the BJP will form a committee to identify infiltrators in Jharkhand. At a rally in Jharkhand’s Seraikela, Shah said that the BJP will bring in legislation to stop the transfer of land to “infiltrators” if they marry tribal women.

“The tribal population in Jharkhand has been declining. Infiltrators in the state are grabbing land by marrying our daughters. We will bring legislation to prevent transfer of land to infiltrators if they marry tribal women. We will also form a committee to identify infiltrators to drive them out and reclaim land grabbed by them,” Shah said.

The party has been drumming up the issue of tribal people, especially women, marrying outside the community. The BJP has already said that those married to non-tribals, especially Muslims, will not be able to access state benefits meant for tribals. It has also accused the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha of allowing undocumented individuals from Bangladesh into the state and then rehabilitating them.

He added that the the JMM-Congress combine were indulging in appeasement politics. “The JMM-RJD-Congress government has taken appeasement to its peak. These parties are destroying the state’s social harmony. They are supporters of infiltrators. To get votes of Bangladesh infiltrators, they are getting them settled across Jharkhand,” Shah said.

Apart from Shah, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, too, alleged that JMM was giving a safe haven in the state. At a rally in Bhawnathpur, the chief minister said that the “infiltrators” have “free rein”.

“Jharkhand has been converted into a ‘dharamshala’ for Rohingyas and Bangladeshi infiltrators who have been given free rein to spread anarchy,” Adityanath alleged.

At his rally, Shah also accused chief minister Hemant Soren of “insulting” former CM Champhai Soren. “You have all witnessed the way former JMM leader and CM Champai Soren was humiliated and thrown out. He was forced to resign as the chief minister of Jharkhand because he raised the issue of infiltration,” Shah added.

Assembly Elections 2024 | The Maharashtra Assembly polls will take place against the backdrop of a fractured political landscape in the western state where the Shiv Sena and NCP will be going up against the Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar factions, even as the BJP and Congress try to make their mark. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the JMM faces a new challenge after Hemant Soren's recent arrest and Champai, a longstanding party member, joining the BJP. The Haryana election resulted in a shock loss for Congress, which was looking to galvanize on the Lok Sabha poll performance, while J&K also saw the grand old party eventually stepping away from the cabinet, with Omar Abdullah's JKNC forming government. It remains to be seen if the upcoming polls help BJP cement its position further or provide a fillip to I.N.D.I.A.
