CBI arrests officer of National Institute of Unani Medicine in Bengaluru for bribery

According to the agency, the complainant company used to supply food to the patients of Unani hospital, for which bills are paid by the National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM), Bengaluru, on monthly basis in the account of its owner.

Bengaluru: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an administrative officer of the Bengaluru-based National Institute of Unani Medicine for accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 for clearing bills. 

According to the agency, the complainant, a canteen vendor, accused Nadeem A Siddiqui of demanding a bribe of Rs 1.1 lakh for clearing the bills. 

“The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed demanding and accepting a part amount of the bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant,” the agency said. 

CBI officials searched the premises belonging to Siddiqui and recovered Rs 2 lakh.

The Special Judge for CBI cases in Bengaluru has remanded him to judicial custody, officials said.
