<p class="bodytext">Six Congress rebel candidates and one JD(S) rebel withdrew their nominations from Kundgol Assembly constituency by-elections, on Thursday, the last day to withdraw the nomination.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Food & Civil Supplies Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan was engaged in persuading these Congress rebels, since Wednesday evening, to withdraw their candidature. On Thursday, some of these rebels came in the vehicle of Zameer and withdrew their nomination.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Congress leaders Shivanand Bentur, Suresh Savanur, Vishwanath Kubihal, Chandrashekhar Juttal, G D Ghorpade, and H L Nadaf withdrew their papers.</p>.<p class="bodytext">JD(S) leader Hazarat Ali Jodamani also withdrew his nomination, after JD(S) and Congress leaders convinced him to follow the 'coalition dharma'.</p>.<p class="bodytext">A total of eight candidates, including Kusumavathi Shivalli of Congress and S I Chikkanagoudar of BJP, are in the fray now.</p>
