No party in Meghalaya seems to be set to get a clear majority, with the NPP winning 20 seats and leading in 5, and the UDP winning 11.

In the 60-seat Assembly constituency, 31 seats are required for a party to get a majority mark.

NPP bags 19 seats as UDP wins 11; Cong, TMC, BJP humbled

As of 5.15 pm, the NPP had secured wins in 19 seats, while the UDP had secured 11.

While the Congress and the TMC managed wins in 5 and 4 seats respectively, the BJP fared poorly, getting wins in just two seats.

NPP bags 16 seats, UDP wins 9; BJP yet to open account

As of 4 pm, the NPP had won 16 seats in 60-seat Assembly in Meghalaya, while the UDP had bagged 9.

The TMC and Congress have won 3 and 4 seats respectively, while the Voice of the People Party has won 3. Two Independent candidates have aslo secured victories in two seats, while the HSPDP has bagged 2.

The BJP, however, is yet to open its account.

As of 1.30 pm, the NPP had secured victories in five seats while the UDP won in two seats, as per the ECI. The TMC, which had given indications of a strong performance in early trends, managed to secure a victory in only one seat. The Congress, too, managed to win one seat, while the BJP had won none.

Amid the ongoing vote counting in Meghalaya, the Conrad Sangma-led National People's Party (NPP) is leading. But it might not be able to touch the magic figure to form the government and may need the support of another party.

In this scenario, the chances of the NPP joining hands with the BJP to form the next government is quite high.

The NPP surged to a lead in 25 seats as of 10.30 am, while the TMC's lead fell to 7 seats. The Congress meanwhile, is leading in 5 seats, while the BJP is leading in 5.

Counting of votes in the Meghalaya began at 8 am on Thursday, March 2, amid expectations of political drama in the hill-state.

As of 9 am, early trends indicated that the NPP was leading in 22 seats, the TMC and the BJP in 10 each, the UDP in 8, and the Congress in 7.
